Graduation Weekend
This weekend was epically awesome.
Friday:
I decided mid-day that I would ride up with Dad & Drew to the 'Ville. Since they were leaving right after Drew got done with drum major auditions, I had to scadaddle out of the office by 2:15.I hopped in my car, turned on my Harry Potter audio book, and headed east.
When I got to Topeka, Drew was still at school, so I [sort-of] helped Megh get her goodies ready for her school partay she had Friday evening. It made me very hungry.
Insert [Mexi-sizing] at Taco John's in St. Jo. After packing down the clown car and finally leaving Topeka, I insisted that we stop to eat. (I get very cranky if I don't eat at my regularly scheduled time. Yes, I am 80 years old. It happens.) And may I just say that St. Joseph smelled like multiple animals had died and were sitting outdoors for days on end. Gross. When we finally got to Maryville we had a couple of errands to run (beer, mainly) and then we got to G&G's house. Shortly there after, we all took off for the Church to start decorating early for Emmy's partay the next day. We weren't expecting to do a whole lot - just a few odds and ends so we didn't have to stress the next day - but the Treese took over in all of us and we ended up getting pretty much everything done. Funny how that works. However; it was terribly convenient to be able to sleep in the next day & to only have to get the food & balloons ready.
Saturday:
Woke up to the smell of Gram's cooking bacon. Yum. I don't even like bacon, but the smell is to die for. They should make a bacon candle or something.
After getting last minute stuff done at the church and getting cleaned up, we all headed to the school for Em's graduation. It was a lovely ceremony with a slide show, a few great speakers. (Emmy's was the best. And no, I'm not being biased. It's just the truth.) We all left in a hurry when it was over to get back to the church and finish heating up the food & getting last minute stuff done before anyone got there. And then, the party finally started & it was glorious. So wonderful to see the fam. & spend time with everyone. We had a great time, as usual, and after several hours of chatter & delish food, Megh, Drew, Adam & I packed up and headed down the road. Drew kindly drove the clown car home because I didn't really feel like driving and he's still in that glorious stage where he wants to drive everywhere. Those were the days.
Saturday night, Drew had a couple of his pals over, and we all watched SNL - my version of the perfect night.
Proof of this wonderful day can be found in the post below this one.
Sunday:
I woke up early, had some yummy breakfast, doddled around the house - procrastinating because I didn't want to drive home - and finally left.
Yes, I did eventually make it home. I didn't think it was ever going to happen, but it did.
I pulled in the garage, cleared the crap out of my car and went inside to immediately start cleaning. Our room was a disaster. In fact, that doesn't really say it. What I meant to say was, our room looked like the wreckage after a hurricane has swept through. How I managed to wear [and fail to put away] so many articles of clothing is beyond me. And then, of course, there is the cat hair that I had to deal with. Since summer's rolling around, our cats are all shedding uncontrollably.
After picking up and putting away all of our clothes, vacuuming & cleaning the bathroom, I laid down & read some more of my book, completely exhausted. Oy.
Even though I ended the weekend in a state of utter fatigue, it was totally worth it. I cannot think of anything better than seeing my entire family in one weekend.
And I get to see them again on Thursday for Megh's pinning ceremony! I am so excited to come down and spend the weekend again. Friday I get to take a vacay day and Saturday is Emmie's bachelorette party. Heck yes. I sense another weekend of fun.
Alright, enough blabbing. Not much else going on here. Have yet to hear from Big Brother's Big Sister's, but I'll let you all know as soon as I do.
Here's to a great rest of the week!
