Growing out bangs doesn't get better as you get older.

Disclaimer: I'm sorry for the unnecessary amount of pictures of me you're about to see.
My mom will truly appreciate this post since she has had to deal with my mop of hair since I was a wee little one.
If you're a mother with a daughter, or a daughter yourself, you'll understand the pickle I've gotten myself into:
growing my hair out.

Alright, I know, it's not exactly an end of the world dilemma, but right now it's one of the main irritants in my life.
A couple years ago, I sat down in the spinny-chair at my hair stylists and said aloud, "just chop it off."
Those four words turned into the biggest dumb-ass remark I've made since I graduated high school.
Clearly I need supervision when I walk into a hair salon.
All of my life I've had long hair. It's thick, which makes it incredibly heavy.
But it's always been my one asset I find the least reasons to bitch about.
*sigh* Just chop it off, she says. It will be cute, she says.
Anyway, after going through a year of what is sure to be later labeled as my "mid-twenties life crisis", I've made the brave decision to grow my hair out.
[And yes, Oprah's already scheduled an interview to see how I've managed the struggle.]

You know when you see a cute picture of a celebrity or model who just cut their hair or bangs and you think to yourself, "that seems like a really good idea!"?
Let me be clear with you:
IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA.
IT WILL NEVER, EVER BE A GOOD IDEA.
Just shut the hell up and have her trim it.

Anyway, as a result of my poor decision-making, I am now forced to try to grow said bangs and hair out.

The unfortunate aspect of this incredibly annoying time in my life is that my bangs are constantly in my face.
And I am forced to either wear a beanie-

or braid them so I don't make a rash decision and just have my hair stylist cut them off again.
My forehead looks the size of the grand canyon in this picture. Ignore that.
I even have to braid it when I am too lazy to do anything with my hair and decide to put it in a pony-tail.
This is an exciting development for me, however, since up until about a couple months ago I was unable to put it up at all
Which, if you're a girl who has ever gotten up late, had a hangover, or just didn't give a shit, you understand how distressing that was.

I'm sure people think I don't know another way to do my hair, but really it's just to aid in the process of not wanting to blow my brains out every time a strand gets stuck in my eye.

I felt better about my braiding obsession last night when Matt & I were watching Justified and one of the main characters comes out sporting this super bad-ass 'do.
I'm not a failure, after all. If Ava can do it, then damnit, so can I!
Tonight Matt & I are going to Topeka for a birthday shindig & KC tomorrow for some St. Patty's day fun.
In the meantime, I'll keep you updated on the hair situation.

I'm sure you're all on pins & needles.

  1. I chopped my hair off once and hated that I couldn't pull it back for that beautiful hangover look!

  2. I am also in the dilemma of chop it off or let it grow. I want it to grow but its at that awkward stage that drives me nuts. My big issue is that I don't tend to wait to go to someone who knows what they are doing to cut my hair, I chop at it myself until it looks absolutely ridiculous and someone has to fix it.
